, (1) Corporations may be organized and incorporated under this act for any one or more lawful purposes not for pecuniary profit. However, corporations not for profit which may be incorporated under any other law of this state governing particular types of corporations may not be incorporated under this act. (2) A corporation not for profit organized prior to December 1, 1987, pursuant to the provisions of chapter 85-56, Laws of Florida, or to the provisions of s. 2, chapter 87-296, Laws of Florida, may conduct the practice of medicine, conduct programs of medical education, and carry on major medical research efforts.
